Reawakening Hope: Faces of Myanmar

Photography Exhibit of Austin Trevett

MDCS 2012

photography by Austin TrevettAustin Trevett PhotographyAustin Trevet Photography exhibition

This exhibit is on view in our offices and commences the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Maria Droste Counseling Services (1982-2012). Austin’s portrayal of the dignity of each person he photographs complements our commitment to honoring the dignity of every individual we serve.

The Artist’s Statement

These Street Portraits were taken in Myanmar in May and November of 2010. The well-deserved international opprobrium directed at the Military Government of Myanmar, has created a pariah state, which has had the effect of obscuring from view the extraordinarily stoic and dignified Burmese people.

It is my hope that by helping to make visible the long-suffering civilian population, I can contribute to the recent focus on the sorry state of human rights in the country. International pressure seems to have resulted in some modest movement towards liberalization.– Austin Trevett
